Why choose Meditec?

The MT course offered by Meditec is well known as the simplest and quickest to get through because they don't force you to learn what you don't need to know (and therefore there is no need to charge a higher tuition), and yet it's very comphrehensive. Meditech has trained hundreds of MTs, including the authors of other training programs, 20 years before the Web was even a concept, and then they simply documented their training methods and began offering them for independent study. A full course outline can be found here.

How much does it cost?

The tuition for the Meditec complete course in medical transcription is $829, which includes everything you need to get trained and start working in this high-paying profession. You can add to your enrollment the Wave Player footpedal ($160) and software so that you can play the dictations directly from your computer (cassettes are included in the standard course). You can also add to your enrollment access to the online course for only $200 more. Why would you want to do that? Read about the online course, or you can simply enroll in the online course (same tuition) for all the features and advantages an online course offers. Enroll with Meditec and receive a $70 Rebate

Thank you so much for helping me today (and for giving me my first official Windows lesson)! I just returned from Borders......I bought the Windows for Dummies and you're right.....this will definitely help me......it's what I needed.

I also wanted to reiterate to you how I enjoyed the Volumes 1 & 2. I found both volumes to be extremely "user-friendly." The "learning modules" concept is great; I think personally, it helps with long term retention of the material. In addition, the lessons were interactive, which is perfect with my type of "learning style".....I was able to read the material and then put it to practical use by writing down the information in an organized manner. Now, I 'm looking forward to the dictation portion.

When I started to research this industry last September, I started investigating the different medical transcription training companies. I always came back to Meditec.Com. Meditec.Com was by far the premier company! In fact, I called John at least 6 times, always with questions and he was so patient. Now, my neighbor who's also a teacher, has just purchased her first installment, and she's looking forward to a new beginning. Maybe we'll have a new network of former teachers and Meditec.Com alumni here in South Texas!

In addition to John's professionalism, Julie was absolutely delightful! I enjoyed talking with her this morning, too.

I will keep you posted on my adventures with dictation and Windows!

Have a great evening.

Sincerely,

Leslie T.

Hi Corie,

Since you represent Meditec, I thought I would share with you my good news. About a week ago, I sent out a flyer, my business card, and a business letter to several local medical practices. Well, the very next day, I started getting calls, and this past Thursday, I landed my first account. I started transcribing for them on Friday, and so far so good. The best part is that I am still getting calls!

I was really concerned that I would not be able to get a job as a newbie. I sent my resume out to all of the big hospitals first, and I was turned down for even an interview because of my lack of experience. So, I was a bit discouraged. However, I decided to try sending out a mass mailing as a means to advertise my service, and to my absolute amazement, the phone is ringing off the hook.

So, thank you for the great program you have put together. I know I am by no means as good as a seasoned MT, but I know with time and experience I will get there. I just wanted to drop a line to let you know that it really is true that you can work from home as an MT after taking your course.

With sincere thanks,

Maria L. W.

I just wanted to let you know, Jari, that I just landed a transcription job in the Radiology Department at [ABC General] Hospital here in Lexington. I need the experience and it's working out just perfectly. I tried to work for [XYZ Transcription] doing at-home transcription (and I still plan to in two years) but I couldn't make an overall 97% on the tests. I did, however, do very well. I thought you might like to see the scores and they are:

Overall Test Score: 90.24

Written Test: 94
Operative Report: 81.56
Discharge Summary: 87.59
ER Gunshot Wound: 95.25
ER DVT Report: 91.56

I did want to take this opportunity to thank you for all you have done and to let you know about one former student. I have absolutely no regrets. Not only did I learn, as you said, an enormous amount of material in a surprisingly short period of time, but it was a rewarding experience as well.

I am 63 years old and I consider myself very lucky to have gotten this hospital position, Jari, and I am going to make the most of it.

Thank you again.

Warmest regards,

Lois S.

Hi Susan,

Wow, I ate too much and now I can not think.

Did you get a chance to look at the website?

A lot of the people on the MT school message board promote Andrews, M-Tech, and Career Step. For the extra money, they are good and have good reputations. Some of the people on the board actually own MT schools and they are promoting them, which is against the board's rules. I know the monitor and owner of the MTDaily school message board. She has to constantly delete things from the board that have been posted by people who hate any school but their own.

I can only speak for Meditec. I am very happy with the program, and I am about to graduate in July. It will have taken me approximately 3 months to take the entire course and that is without taking more than 3- 6 hours per day M-F. This link will take you to the course comparison chart of how all the schools measure up with each other. http://www.meditec.com/cs.html

What I found when I looked at the Andrews, M-Tech, and Career Step programs (websites) were that they furnished you with a lot of books (as a part of their fee) that you really do not need. Meditec.Com furnishes (as a part of their fee) all the text that is needed to train you to become a successful Medical Transcriptionist. They also furnish a Surgical Compendium, which you have to purchase separately in some of the other schools, and also a HomeBiz book, which is priceless for enabling you to set up your own Medical Transcription business in your home, should you choose to do so. I have purchased a good illustrated medical dictionary at $ 35.00, a great medical abbreviation book at $ 21.00 and a book of medical words, which I do not use because all the words and abbreviations are in Meditec.Com's books. So why pay $ 2,000- $ 3,000 more dollars to have a large MT library, which you can build over time.

Meditec offers two different prices, which you can discuss with Jari, when she emails you. The people at the school message board will argue that you get what you pay for, I am sure that you have heard that phrase before. And some have even said, "Why is the price for Meditec so low?" Well my answer to them is why is your school so high? That phrase is not original with me; the President of Meditec asked the same question.

Some days, I studied more than 4 hours and some days less than 2. It is a great course that is taught in a foundation building type manner (i.e.. not unlike building a house). Jari Davis, the President has written a program that is not only easy to comprehend, but easy to work with. By the time you get through Volume One, you will know how to discern medical words that are diseases, procedures, tests etc., because you will have learned the prefices, suffices and roots of words. Also, in Volume One you will learn English and grammar techniques, which will enable you to form medical words using prefices, root words, and suffices. You will learn how to use combining vowels (usually o or i) to bring together all the components of the words in order to form exact medical procedures, tests, and diseases etc. At the end of this course, (and that is where I am) you will be able to look at a medical term or word and be able to understand the meaning. For example, you will know that encephalitis is an inflammation in the brain because you would have learned that "en" means inside or within, and that cephal refers to the head (what is inside or within the head? the brain...) and that itis means inflammation.

Meditec also has a great anatomy course written and illustrated (pictures... black and white) that is very detailed and easy to understand. I could go on and on. The person who said on the board that it is not important if the students are happy with the school. What??? Well, as my grandson says, "DUH!" If I could not be happy with the program that I am studying, how could I have a hope to enjoy the profession.

I can only add this Susan, whenever I have applied or emailed some of the MT companies while looking for future employment, I have gotten a response immediately when I told them what school I was graduating from. I have already had three offers, and I have not even graduated yet. It is not what the negative (I'm am sure you have noted that) people on the message board have to say about the other schools (Meditec included) besides the one that they are promoting, it is what do the Medical Transcription Companies, who have a reputation to uphold with their clients (doctors and clinics) have to say about Meditec. So far, I have gotten rave reviews from the companies that I have contacted.

Let me promise you this Susan, if you go with Meditec (and no I get nothing for telling you this, and I do not work for the company), I will personally lead you to some top MT companies and will email you great sites that will enable you to succeed in the Medical transcriptionist business. Now tell me who on that board can make that kind of guarantee? Who will give of their time to mentor you. You might ask, "Why would you do that for me?" The answer is simple, I want you to succeed, and there is plenty of work out there for all of us.

One last thing (did I already say that hee-hee), Jari has made this a fun course. I could not be happier!! Well feel free to email me and let me know what you decide.

Sincerely,

Constance K.
